NLEX, PBOAP sign agreement on road safety

Date Posted : September 03, 2015

The road safety campaign at the NLEX received a big boost with a trisectoral drive to promote and enforce safe driving at the 90-km expressway.

The Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), Tollways Management Corporation (TMC), and Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines (PBOAP) recently signed an agreement aimed at promoting a culture of road safety among users of the NLEX.

MNTC President and CEO Rodrigo Franco said, “Through this partnership, we are hoping to reduce road safety problems not only within NLEX but on other roads as well.”

Under the deal, MNTC and TMC will provide PBOAP the apprehension record along the NLEX of bus drivers and companies due to non-compliance with road rules and vehicle unworthiness.

PBOAP, on the other hand, will use the NLEX information to monitor, assess, and chart performance of member-companies and its drivers. It will also institute a continuing bus drivers’ education and work with member-companies for a system of rewards and recognition to encourage good driving practices and pre-emptive vehicle maintenance.

“This road safety campaign is not just for NLEX, we also want to develop the image and reputation of provincial buses as a safe and convenient mode of transportation,” said MNTC Vice President for Marketing Renie Ticzon.

For her part, PBOAP President Marivic del Pilar said “NLEX has been very supportive to us since it opened in 2005. We are very much willing to be part of this advocacy that will enhance bus drivers’ knowledge, behavior, and driving practices.”

MNTC is the builder and concessionaire of the NLEX, while TMC is the operator of the said expressway. PBOAP is an association composed of major bus fleet operators serving the commuting public of North and Central Luzon.

Signing the deal are: MNTC President and CEO Rodrigo E. Franco, MNTC Vice President for Marketing Renato U. Ticzon, TMC Vice President for Traffic Operations Francis Gerard E. Aberilla, PBOAP President Marivic Del Pilar, and PBOAP Executive Director Alejandro Yague Jr.
