MNTC ready for 15% increase traffic this Holy Week

All systems are in place for the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) as they expect the surge in traffic this week.

In a recent press conference, MNTC said they are all set to implement their yearly program, “Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko” (SMSK) along the NLEX, the SCTEX and the CAVITEX to manage the 10% - 15% increase in traffic on Holy Week.

The SMSK is the motorist assistance program of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) to ensure hassle-free travel during the Lenten Season and other holidays. It is implemented in all three of MPTC’s expressways – the NLEX, the SCTEX and the CAVITEX.

From March 18 to 28, additional patrol vehicles and enforcers will be fielded to immediately respond to distressed motorists. Ambulant toll tellers equipped with portable toll collection gadgets will be deployed and additional traffic informatory signs will be installed in strategic areas.

Road works will also be suspended during this period unless safety repair is required.

Layered toll collection scheme and spare lanes with portabooths will be opened to speed up transactions at the NLEX Balintawak, Mindanao and Bocaue Toll Plazas. In SCTEX, additional collection points will be opened at Tarlac and Tipo Toll Plazas. While ambulant tellers will be deployed at the Dau Interchange, Sta.Ines, San Miguel and Dinalupihan Toll Plazas.

On March 23 to 27, MNTC and its partners will continue to provide free services such as free calls and Wi-Fi, free basic mechanic services and first aid treatments in designated locations along the three expressways. Free towing services to the nearest exit will be offered to Class 1 vehicles from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Free drinking water and sunblock will also be available at SMSK Motorist Camps in NLEX Dau rest bay northbound, SCTEX Concepcion northbound, Pitabunan southbound and Floridablanca rest bay, and CAVITEX Parañaque and Kawit toll plazas.

This program is implemented on top of the integration of the NLEX and SCTEX, which is expected to lessen travel time to the north by 40 minutes.

“We are continually thinking of way to make our road networks more seamless,” says Rod Franco, MNTC president.

“With the two programs in full force during Holy Week -- the NLEX-SCTEX integration and the SMSK – we are hoping that the motorists who ply our expressways will spend less time on the road and more time for their loved ones,” he adds.
